Here is a list of skills we should consider when we are ready to find a Sr. Power BI Admin candidate for the project: Power BI Service & Report Server: Experience in deploying, configuring, and managing Power BI Service (cloud) and/or Power BI Report Server (on-prem/cloud VMs). Experience setting up the PowerBI ecosystem from scratch. He had not setup Report Service, Report Server, Gateway, Users, Roles, Security, etc. Build out the full PowerBI ecosystem from the ground up following best practices, and who can also do dashboarding/reporting. Administration & Governance: Skills in managing workspaces, apps, and datasets in Power BI Service. Understands best practices for report lifecycle management, version control, and data governance. DAX: Strong skills in Data Analysis Expressions for creating custom calculations, aggregations, and measures. Power Query: Experience in data transformation and ETL processes using Power Query and the M language. Power BI Dataflows: Experience with self-service data preparation using Power BI dataflows. Familiarity with integrating Power BI dataflows and applying ETL at scale and setting up dataflow refresh schedules. Power BI Gateway: Knowledge of setting up and managing Power BI Gateway for on-premises data refresh scenarios (like Tableau Bridge). Power BI Development: Proficiency in creating complex reports and dashboards using Power BI Desktop. Data Modeling: Ability to design and implement data hierarchies and relationships in Power BI. SQL: Strong SQL skills, as many of the data sources they might connect to will likely be SQL-based (like Snowflake). Cloud Infrastructure: Understanding of cloud platforms, particularly Azure, especially if considering hosting Power BI Report Server on an Azure VM. Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate - Confirmation of Power BI proficiency. Consider other Azure or data-related certifications based on broader role requirements, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Fundamentals.
