Status:

US Citizen only Where have candidates missed the mark Candidates have lacked DBA experience, Always Encrypted experience, and leadership experience.

Notes from SME: This is a Developer and Leadership role i  is tough to find the Unicorn that also has Always Encrypted. We are working to try and get the candidates without always encrypted in front of the Customer, and I have been asking candidates to study/come up to speed on Always Encrypted before interviewing with Customer. I would ask the developers if they have AE, and if not: Verify that they understands the concepts around encryption, and ask how quickly they can come up to speed on Microsoft Always Encrypted. Ask candidates to review the platform, to understand not how to initially install/implement but to develop and migrate SQL code and stored procedures, as well as what would be required to manually query/verify data. Let me know prior to interview that this is the case, and I will try to assess how much they have digested. Note: Separately, please try to determine the extent of their leadership abilities running meetings, acting as a liaison with upper management, making decisions whether or not code is ready to move forward from development/test environments into production. How will they learn Customer environment and application. Why is this position open New role Important Skills: DBA SQL Always Encrypted Leadership experience Certifications: n/a Years of Experience: 5+ SQL experience Background requirements: Standard background Non-THC drug screen In addition to the above requirements, Vertical Screen will be running a separate FBI check themselves

Qualifying Questions from the Vertical Screen:

1. What is main diff between clustered and non-clustered indexes

a. Cluster index stores the entire content of the table in leaf level sorted by the cluster key. A non-clustered sorts and stores only listed keys (they may add that the pk is part of non-clustered behind the scenes)

2. How many clustered indexes given table can have

a. One.

3. What is covering index

a. A index slightly larger index (in size), but avoids additional key lookups for matching queries.

4. Page life expectancy is rising up good or bad a. Good, it means a page is staying in the buffer pool longer, so SQL Server is less likely to have to go to disk looking for the data page, which makes the system run faster

5. In a stored procedure, for a large amount of data, what is more efficient in SQL Server to use, a temporary table or a table variable a. Temporary table as SQL Server can build and use statistics on the data in the table to build the query plan i. SQL Server assumes one row for a table variable and is known to cause issues when dealing with medium to large amounts of data.
