Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Technical Writer to join our team. As a Technical Writer, you will be responsible for documenting and maintaining Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRamp) System Security Plans (SSPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Security Assessment Plans (SAPs). As a Technical Writer in our organization, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and comprehensive documentation of our information systems' security controls, processes, and assessments in compliance with the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRamp) standards. Your role will involve collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to gather information, analyze security controls, and produce comprehensive and accurate documentation that aligns with FedRamp requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong technical writing skills, a solid understanding of FedRamp guidelines, and the ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with subject matter experts, system administrators, and security professionals to gather information required for FedRamp documentation.

Analyze security controls and evaluate their effectiveness, ensuring compliance with FedRamp guidelines.

Prepare and maintain FedRamp System Security Plans (SSPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Security Assessment Plans (SAPs).

Create clear, concise, and accurate documentation that meets FedRamp requirements and addresses the specific needs of the organization.

Review and update existing documentation to reflect changes in security controls or operational procedures.

Work closely with internal teams to understand technical concepts and translate them into user-friendly and comprehensible language.

Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and aligns with organizational policies and procedures.

Conduct quality assurance checks on documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance.

Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and changes in FedRamp guidelines to maintain a high level of expertise.

Participate in meetings, training sessions, and other activities to gather information and promote knowledge sharing.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (such as Computer Science, Information Technology, or Technical Communication) or equivalent experience.

5-7 years experience required

Proven experience as a Technical Writer, preferably in a government or regulated environment.

Strong knowledge of the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRamp) and its documentation requirements.

Familiarity with security controls, risk management frameworks (e.g., NIST SP 800-53), and information security best practices.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail.

Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Proficient in using documentation tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and SharePoint.

Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear and concise documentation.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to gather information from diverse sources and synthesize it into comprehensive documentation.

Experience with version control systems and document management tools is a plus.

Familiarity with cloud computing, software-as-a-service (SaaS), and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) concepts is desirable.

Professional certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) are a plus.

To get started, can you give me a quick overview of your team and what you do

I am part of the LNRS Information Security function and work within the Governance and Compliance team. We are responsible for providing responses and artifacts to customer requests who require certain assurances that we have sound security practices when using our products, processing their data, and storing their data. Specifically, my team is instrumental in providing government expertise and assistance as part of various government agency assessments (e.g., FedRamp, NIST 171, CJIS). As part of this function, we are also responsible for documenting System Security Plans (SSPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that are required deliverables for FedRamp assessments.

This person will need to be self-sufficient and pro-active in order to help ensure our information systems' security controls, processes, and descriptions are accurately and comprehensively documented (e.g., SSPs, SOPs) as required by the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRamp) standards.

What would you say are the TOP 3 must-have skills youre looking for (Measurable skills, technologies, etc.)

a.) Ability to work independently and proactively collaborate with stakeholders

b.) Technical proficiencies in cloud computing, infrastructure (operating systems, databases, networks), encryption (FIPS 140-2), secure application development. While need not be at an SME level, but enough to understand the technology, challenge the responses, and interpret whether the response meets the desired NIST control.

c.) Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to gather information from diverse sources and synthesize it into comprehensive documentation.

d.) Need to create clear, concise, and accurate documentation that meets FedRamp / NIST control requirements.

How many years of experience are you looking for As you start to go through resumes, what would stand out to you as the BEST candidate versus an AVERAGE candidate

This person should have 3 to 5 years technical and government experience who can articulate and write comprehensive FedRamp documentation like SSPs and SOPs. The resumes should indicate experience with FedRamp (cloud computing (CSPs) assessments and familiarity with NIST standards. The resume will need to indicate experience with the FedRamp process and writing required FedRamp documentation like SSPs and SOPS.

Does your team work standard core hours or does that vary

My team are professionals who work towards the completion of task deliverables. However for this position there should be standard daily core hours (TBD) that are tracked.

Do you need someone with a particular degree or certification

I think a computer science degree would be beneficial. Certifications in Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) are preferable

What are some of the performance indicators youll be looking for once this person ramps up (Meeting deadlines, quality of work, etc.)

Certainly, this role will require meeting deadlines / adhering with project timelines, ability to effectively communicate verbally to SMEs, project team, and me and demonstrate a strong ability to gather information and insights and then create accurate and comprehensive documentation.
