Systems Engineer II

Location: Scottsdale, AZ

Contract Duration: Through 12/31/2023

Location Type: Remote OK, on-site/hybrid preferred

General Description:

Under general supervision, the Systems Engineer II maintains IT systems and networks to execute technical and administrative tasks; also maintains computers and networking systems working to their maximum capacity with greatest efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Follow the Engineering requirements practice.  Evaluate functional and technical business requirements and transform requirements into infrastructure solutions.

Collaborate with team members that have a broad experience with servers, operating systems, databases, applications and networking to design platforms that meet functional and technical requirements.

Develops and supports highly available and scalable platforms with concentration on automating all phases of the process using scripting languages, software development and automation platforms.

Develop and support build and deployment platforms with concentration on automated CI/CD pipelines.  Make recommendation for improvements to existing platforms.

Support product teams in building and operating CI/CD pipelines.  Develop new CI/CD pipelines and assist with making them operational.  Make recommendations for improvements to existing pipelines.

Develop and support monitoring, discovery, reporting, alerting, and analytic systems and tools.

Learn how to identify key performance metrics, thresholds and events. 

Develop and support the feedback gathered from monitoring.  Implement improvements to the value stream including alerts, responses, dashboards and reports.

Utilizes sources to identify opportunities that may improve Discount Tire's system capabilities; including industry trends, research organizations, user groups, and technical conferences.

Participate in developing and/or testing innovation.  Support the safe atmosphere.  Collaborate across teams to quickly develop concepts to be evaluated.

Advise management with the goal of making the appropriate IT decisions and choices.

Complete work in a timely and accurate manner while providing exceptional customer service.

Provide technical support to all employees.

Design, plan and execute training for the use of systems and networks.

Install and configure hardware equipment and software programs.

Perform troubleshooting and execute needed repairs.

Execute different maintenance activities when needed.

Develop security related documents for review.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

This position requires a minimum of three years Systems Engineer experience with hands on experience in infrastructure design, automation and administration.

Technical and practical skills with common infrastructure systems including but not limited to: Amazon Web Services, Linux, Microsoft Windows Server, Virtualization/VMware, Server Clustering, MS Active Directory, Enterprise backup, Storage, MS SQL Server, server hardware, Network Protocols, DNS/DHCP, general networking concepts

Proven, specialized expertise in at least one technology including but not limited to: networking (security, routing and switching, voice, etc), common web stacks, data center infrastructure, monitoring, CI/CD pipeline development, and infrastructure automation

Working knowledge of the software development lifecycle.

Working knowledge in building CI/CD pipelines with automated build tools including Atlassian, Jenkins, Chef, Microsoft SCCM/DSC, AWS CloudFormation

Ability to build professional relationships with cross functional teams.

Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills, including the ability to write in a clear and concise manner.

Intermediate skills with Microsoft office, including skills with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio is necessary.

Ability to identify moderately complex problems, review information to develop and evaluate options, then implement solutions is essential.

Ability to influence and provide consistent results across all levels of the organization is imperative.

Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure, meet deadlines, present a professional demeanor and work well independently is essential.

Organizational and problem-solving skills, a can-do attitude, and the ability to adjust to changing requirements are essential.

Customer service skills including the ability to manage and respond to different organizational situations while maintaining a positive and friendly attitude is essential.

In-depth knowledge of a variety of IT systems, databases and applications

Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills

Maintaining confidentiality, treating others with respect and upholding company values are key attributes.

Educational Requirements:

This position requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.

Industry certifications preferred
