Job Overview: We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to drive innovation and efficiency in data solutions at Kroger. This role requires deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (P), Vertex AI, and feature engineering to support machine learning and data analytics initiatives. The ideal candidate will design, build, and maintain scalable, high-performance data pipelines while ensuring seamless data integration across the organization. This role demands technical leadership, collaboration, and a focus on optimizing data workflows for business success. Key Responsibilities: Lead Data Engineering Initiatives: Provide technical leadership and drive collaboration across teams to solve complex data challenges. Design & Build Scalable Data Pipelines: Develop and maintain robust, real-time and batch data pipelines using Kafka, Databricks, and other modern data tools. Optimize Data Workflows: Enhance efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and scalability of data processing pipelines across large datasets. Feature Engineering & ML Workflow Integration: Utilize Vertex AI, BigQuery ML, and Python-based tools to develop feature engineering pipelines for machine learning applications. Ensure Data Quality & Security: Implement automated testing frameworks (unit, integration, and performance testing) to ensure data integrity and compliance. Architect & Document Data Solutions: Draft architectural diagrams, interface specifications, and technical documentation to ensure seamless execution of data strategies. Mentor & Guide Team Members: Share best practices, provide training, and support the upskilling of the data engineering team. Present Cost/Benefit Analyses: Provide data-driven recommendations to leadership for scalable and effective data solutions. Must-Have Skills: Strong hands-on experience in Google Cloud Platform (P) with expertise in BigQuery, Vertex AI, and Dataflow. Advanced feature engineering for machine learning models using BigQuery ML and custom Python libraries. Data pipeline development & ETL experience using Kafka, Databricks, Airflow, or equivalent. Experience in real-time and batch data processing across complex environments. Deep knowledge of SQL, NoSQL databases, and distributed data storage solutions. Strong coding skills in Python and/or Scala. Experience in CI/CD for data pipelines and automated data testing frameworks. Excellent communication skills with a strong ability to document, present, and mentor teams. P Certifications (e.g., Professional Data Engineer, ML Engineer). Experience working in Customer Experience (CX/MX) domains. Good to Have: Familiarity with streaming technologies like Apache Beam and Pub/Sub.
