Job Title: Lead Java Developer (Microservices & Design) Location: Alpharetta, GA -ONSITE (NEED LOCAL CANDIDATE) Job Overview: We are seeking a Lead Java Developer with expertise in Microservices and architectural design to join UPS in Alpharetta, GA. The ideal candidate will have strong Java Spring Boot experience, deep knowledge of Kafka, and a solid background in distributed systems. Candidates with Camunda BPMN experience will be preferred. This is a hands-on leadership role, requiring strong problem-solving skills and technical expertise in cloud-based high-availability backend solutions. Key Responsibilities: Application Development & Design: Architect, design, and develop scalable, high-performance microservices using Java (8+) and Spring Boot. Implement RESTful and gRPC APIs with a focus on security and performance. Conduct code reviews, mentor developers, and ensure best practices. Kafka & Event-Driven Systems: Design and implement real-time data streaming solutions using Apache Kafka. Develop Kafka producers, consumers, schemas, and stream processing applications. Optimize Kafka performance, fault tolerance, and scalability. Distributed Systems & Cloud Deployment: Design and build highly available distributed systems that can scale efficiently. Deploy and manage applications in AWS, Azure, or GCP environments. Utilize Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines for deployment and automation. BPMN Tool Integration (Nice to Have): Work with Camunda or similar BPMN tools to model and optimize workflows. Integrate BPMN processes with microservices and backend systems. Monitoring & Performance Optimization: Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch. Troubleshoot and resolve performance bottlenecks in distributed environments. Collaboration & Agile Development: Work closely with product managers, frontend teams, and DevOps to align on technical solutions. Participate in Agile ceremonies, translating business needs into actionable technical solutions. Required Skills & Qualifications: 8+ years of professional Java (8+) development experience. Extensive experience with Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Security. Strong expertise in Apache Kafka (topics, partitions, offsets, schemas, Kafka Streams). Solid understanding of distributed system design, scalability, and fault tolerance. Experience with SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra) databases. Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/Azure/GCP. Proficiency with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps workflows. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex distributed applications. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Camunda BPMN or other workflow automation tools. Hands-on experience with Kafka Connect, Kafka Streams, or Confluent Platform. Knowledge of Istio, Envoy, or service mesh solutions for microservices. Understanding of event-driven architectures and caching mechanisms (Redis, Memcached). Familiarity with observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch. Soft Skills: Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Ability to lead and mentor junior developers. Self-motivated, with a problem-solving mindset. Passion for learning new technologies and staying up-to-date with industry trends. Education: Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
